This is an outstanding dessert of vegan chocolate brownies which we searched high and low for and it cooked brilliantly on the cake baking setting of Sakura. Adapted from a recipe of Jami Oilver’s – vegan because one of us has a dairy allergy, adapted because it originally included nuts…the other one of us has a nut allergy!
Break 150g of the chocolate and melt either in a heatproof bowl over a pan of water or by a quick
blast in the microwave. Leave to cool a little.
Grease your rice cooker inner bowl with a little sunflower oil. Sieve flour and cocoa powder into a
large bowl.
Add the sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir in the oil, plant milk and melted chocolate until mixed. Roughly chop the remaining 50g of chocolate and stir into the mixture
Pour into your rice cooker inner bowl. Smooth the top a little with a spoon and pat the bottom with a flat palm to settle the mixture.
Put on ’CAKE’ setting for 30-40 minutes. At 30 mins check with a toothpick, if it comes out clean it’s
ready, if not leave longer.
The top will still be quite soft, don’t worry about this! Leave to cool, tip out onto a plate, divide and serve

Notes
Serve with non dairy cream if you are vegan or dairy if you aren’t. Add some fruit or nuts to garnish or drizzle a decorative pattern on top with melted chocolate.
I used this recipe this year to try out making a cake in my Panda rice cooker! The only problem was that I haven’t noticed that it’s for a larger bowl size, so I had to cook it 2x40mins – but it was still delicious! I used normal milk tho, and maybe next time I’ll try to add some nuts! Thank you 🙂
Hi Izabela, we put the correct proportioned recipe for the vegan chocolate brownie to be made in Panda in the instruction manual, so if you just want to use that recipe it will be the correct amount of ingredients. Glad you like it 🙂
Hi,
i wondered if i can try this recipe in my Kumo as well?
Greetings, Juliane
Hi Juliane, Kumo doesn’t have a cake baking function, so you won’t be able to cook cake in it.
Got the panda rice cooker yesterday and made rice. Immediately impressed.
Today I made these brownies using the recipe in the manual.
Wow !! So easy and yet so delicious. You have to try them
Hi! Yes, the vegan brownies are fabulous – very easy and very, very delicious (dangerous too as you eat too many of them!)
I am wondering whether I am overcooking or not.. I followed the recipe exactly. But after 50mins on the cake setting in the bamboo the tooth pick still comes out really wet. On the other hand the next step says the top can still be soft.. any tips on knowing when it is ready?
Thank you
Hi, yes, the top will still feel very soft even when it’s cooked. Usually when the edges of the brownie are cooked and are pulling away from the side of the bowl and are firm, the brownie is cooked. If you leave it to cool even if the centre is still wet on the toothpick, it will firm up once it cools.
any ideas on how to shake this recipe up? would love to modify it to have some nuts in there possibly? maybe some white chocolate?!
Hi, you can fold in chopped white chocolate or nuts with the other chocolate at the end of mixing
